COVID Corner
Prime Care Family Health Team will be hosting future vaccine pop-up clinics subject to COVID-19 vaccine availability.
We at Prime Care FHT are working closely with Halton Region to support community COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Over the last several months, we have been able to hold pop-up vaccination clinics when supply has been made available to us by Public Health. Our vaccine supply up to now has been very limited. We hope to receive more COVID-19 vaccine in the weeks and months to come. Given the evolving situation, unfortunately we are unable to predict which vaccine type and/or how many doses we will be receiving at this time.
We kindly ask all patients to continue checking their email for communications regarding future pop-up clinic dates at Prime Care FHT. These emails will include the type of vaccine being offered and instructions on how to book your appointment. Please read these emails carefully before proceeding with booking your vaccine appointment to ensure you meet our eligibility criteria. Appointments are generally booked on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In the meantime, we encourage all patients to try and book their first or second doses as soon as you are eligible through the Halton Region online booking system.
Eligibility Update from Halton Region:
- Accelerated second doses for residents who received the AstraZeneca vaccine: Residents who received the AstraZeneca vaccine for their first dose and wish to receive an mRNA vaccine for their second dose, are now able to book at a minimum interval of 8-weeks through Halton Region’s online booking system. Residents who have already booked their second dose appointment at the 12-week interval are able to reschedule to an earlier date, dependent on appointment availability through Halton Region’s site. Residents can also book appointments through participating pharmacies offering the AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
- Accelerated second doses:Â Individuals who received their first dose before May 10 are now able to reschedule their second dose appointment to an earlier date through Halton Region’s online booking system. This also includes individuals who work in Halton who may have received their first dose at a Halton clinic (e.g., essential worker) and is in addition to individuals who are already eligible for the shortened second dose interval.
- Update on vaccine interchangeability (“vaccine mixing”): Halton Region’s online booking system now displays which mRNA vaccine is being offered at each clinic. Residents are able to book appointments, or reschedule their second dose appointment and select a clinic offering either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at the time of booking. This means that residents who received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as their first dose, are able to choose to book an appointment to receive the same or a different mRNA vaccine for their second dose through Halton Region’s online book system.
